Rancilio steam and hot-water tap spring, fitted inside the valve mechanism. It is the part that returns the lever to the closed position and keeps the seat properly loaded. With heat and time the spring loses tension — and that is when the wand starts to drip after being shut.
It belongs to the steam and hot-water tap mechanism of Rancilio machines. Give the model when requesting a quote, since the mechanism varies between generations.
What does the spring do?
It provides the return force for the lever and keeps the plug loaded against its seat. Without that load the valve never closes fully and lets steam or water through.
What are the signs of a tired spring?
A slack lever or knob that no longer returns to the closed position, and a wand that drips after being shut. Carrying on wears the valve seat, a far more expensive repair.
How is it replaced?
Switch the machine off and wait for boiler pressure to fall and the tap to cool. Open the mechanism, take out the old spring, clear scale from the seat and fit the new one; check the seals while you are there.
How do I order?
Use 'Request a quote' with the machine model and say whether you also need the seals for the mechanism. Ships from Portugal across the EU.
