What does this part do in a lever group?
In a lever group the brew pressure does not come from a pump, it comes from a strong spring: the operator pulls the lever down, the spring is compressed and then returns that force to the piston progressively. This holder supports the spring and keeps it seated straight and always in the same place.
What does lead-free mean here?
It means the alloy contains no lead, now the usual choice for components in contact with the water that ends up in the cup. It is a difference of material and not of dimensions, so the part fits as the earlier version did.
Will it fit my machine?
