When should it be replaced?
When it spins free and no longer regulates the steam, or when it is cracked — a cracked knob lets hot steam escape and is a burn risk.
Is it hard to change?
No. With the machine cold, undo the central screw, pull the knob off the shaft and fit the new one; then test opening and closing.
