Why replace rather than straighten?
Straightening a dented wand leaves micro-cracks in the tube and shifts the working angle. The result is a wand that bends again and no longer meets the jug at the right position.
How should the stainless steel be cared for?
Wipe with a damp cloth and purge the wand straight after every use, before the milk dries. Dried milk inside the bore is the usual cause of poor steam and off flavours.
Which signs mean it should be changed?
A permanent leak at the ball joint, a wand that swivels stiffly or sits off axis, and a blocked bore that neither a pin nor a dedicated detergent will clear.
