A 0.5 mm shim for the group gasket, 72 mm outside diameter and 58.5 mm inside diameter. It sits under the gasket to restore the height lost in the seat, so that the portafilter locks back in its usual position without being forced. Besides Faema and E61 groups, it suits Wega, Bianchi, VBM, Gaggia, Rancilio and Sanremo groups that use a gasket of the same size.
The classic sign is the portafilter handle travelling past its usual locking position. As the gasket seat wears, the gasket sits deeper and the handle turns further each time; a 0.5 mm shim gives that height back.
Will this size fit my group?
The shim is 72 mm by 58.5 mm and 0.5 mm thick. Measure the outside and inside diameter of the gasket you already use: if they agree, the shim goes underneath with no other change. It is listed for Faema and E61 groups and for Wega, Bianchi, VBM, Gaggia, Rancilio and Sanremo groups with the same gasket.
Does the shim replace the gasket?
It does not. It is a supplement fitted under the gasket, never in place of it. The gasket remains the part that seals; the shim only corrects the height of the seat.
Which thickness should I choose?
0.5 mm is the fine correction, for a handle that has moved only slightly past its normal position. Where wear is greater, a thicker shim or two shims together are used, raising the seat in steps until the angle is right.
How is it fitted?
