Why a three-way valve?
The two-way only shuts and opens; the three-way has a drain port. At the end of the shot it releases the pressure trapped in the portafilter, so it comes off without splashing.
What are the ratings?
AE brand, 220/240 V at 50/60 Hz, normally closed, with a 1.4 mm orifice and an inner Viton seal, resistant to high temperature.
What are the failure signs?
A portafilter hard to remove for lack of drain, constant dripping from the group, or a coil click with no water through a scaled orifice.
Can I replace only the inner seal?
If the coil is sound and the fault is a leak or low pressure from the seal, replacing the inner Viton seal is enough and cheaper.
