What does the coil do?
It is the electromagnet that, with current, moves the solenoid valve plunger and opens or cuts the flow — without it, the valve is energised but does not act.
How do I know the coil has failed?
If the valve is energised but does not open, does not 'click', or there is a burnt smell, the coil has burnt out and should be replaced.
Do I need to replace the whole valve?
Often not — if only the coil has failed and the valve body is sound, replacing just the coil is faster and cheaper.
