Which readings indicate healthy operation?
At rest, steam pressure on most machines sits between 1 and 1.5 bar. During extraction the pump needle should settle around 9 bar and fall back slowly at the end. Any lasting deviation from those figures deserves investigation.
When should the gauge be replaced?
When the needle jumps, sticks or fails to return to zero after the machine is switched off, and when there is condensation behind the glass — a sign that the seal has failed and moisture has begun attacking the mechanism. At that point the reading is no longer a reference.
How long does fitting take?
